History of Neighborhood Connections
In 2002, the Cleveland Foundation’s board of directors authorized the creation of Neighborhood Connections.
The program, working with grassroots leaders in 26 Cleveland neighborhoods and the city of East Cleveland, has supported an array of projects with small grants (under $5,000) that address specific community needs from arts and community festivals, to gardening and landscape improvements, neighborhood safety, youth initiatives, to academic and recreational programs.
Grants are intended to spur small, grassroots community efforts and, while doing so, to assist groups and individuals in the community to connect with others.
Neighborhood Connections is guided by a Grantmaking Committee whose members review all grant applications and make funding decisions. The Committee is composed of 24 Cleveland residents with a history of community involvement.
Now in its ninth year, Neighborhood Connections has funded more than 1,300 neighborhood projects totaling $4.9 million. Neighborhood Connections expanded to the city of East Cleveland in August 2011. See our impact.
